The Vice Chancellor University of Turbat prof .Dr. Abdul Razzaq Sabir on 20th May 2020 chaired an important meeting at the video conference room.
Besides launching online classes, the matters related to installation of learning management system, conducting examinations and other educational issues were discussed in the meeting in view of pandemic coronavirus and lockdown across the country.
The meeting was also attended by UoT’s Registrar Ghulam Farooq Baloch, Dean Faculty of Arts and Social Science Prof. Dr. Abdul Saboor Baloch, Dean Faculty of Legal Education Prof. Dr. Gul Hassan, Dean Faculty of Science and Engineering Dr. Hanif Ur Rahman, Controller of Examinations Tanveer Ahmed, Director UoT Gwadar Campus Ijaz Ahmed, Chairman Management Sciences Department Dr. Waseem Barkat, Chairman Chemistry Department Dr. Naeemullah (through video link), Chairman Computer Science Department Mukhtar Hussain, Chairman Law Department Mehmood Ameer, Chairman Economics Department Beebagar Baloch, Chairman Political Science Department Changez Ahmed, Chairman English Department Mazhar Gichki, Chairman Commerce Department Waris Rasheed, Chairman Education Department Manzoor Ahmed, Deputy Registrar Ganguzar Baloch, PSO to VC Engr. Bilal Ur Rahman, Web Developer Junaid Qadir and other officers from relevant sections. Social distancing and other preventive measures against Coronavirus were also observed during the meeting.
The VC briefed the meeting on decisions and guidelines made in the meetings regarding online classes and examinations, held between Chairman Higher Education Commission and Vice Chancellors.
Prof Dr. Abdul Razzaq Sabir said that the preparations are in progress under the online teaching policy of the Pakistan Higher Education Commission for launching online classes for teachers and students in UoT to prevent the coronavirus so that valuable time and energy of students is not wasted.
The meeting discussed the situation posed by the global pandemic, provision of internet facility, making it possible for students to access all the lectures and related materials provided, and the difficulties faced by the students.
On this occasion, the Vice Chancellor directed the concerned officers of the Department of Computer Science and the Directorate of Information Technology to complete all the arrangements for the commencement of E learning and online classes as soon as possible.
Besides online classes and examinations, Mukhtar Hussain Chairman Department of Computer Science also briefed the meeting on the technical aspects of learning management system (LMS), faculty training and uploading of course materials on the website.
Speaking on the occasion, Registrar Ghulam Farooq Baloch stressed the need to adopt a better communication mechanism between students and teachers.
During the meeting it was suggested that following the results of the student survey initiated by the QEC data analyst, a workable mechanism of communication between teachers and students will be adopted.
Prof. Dr. Abdul Saboor suggested that the final semester students of MA/MSc and BS programs have already given their examinations and now their thesis project presentation can be taken.
Dr. Hanif Ur Rahman informed the meeting that according to HEC guidelines, final semester students' project presentation theses can be taken through online or at campus observing social distancing and other precautionary measures against spread of Coronavirus.
It was also decided in the meeting that research theses synopses, defense and presentation of research scholars of the department of Balochi, Chemistry and Management Sciences would be held very soon. Dr. Abdul Saboor informed the meeting that all the departments of the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences have been directed to give assignment to the students instead of mid-term examination and assignments have almost been given to all the students of this faculty.
At the end, the Vice Chancellor thanked all the participants and said that another meeting of the same nature would be held after Eid in which Turbat University would announce its policy on current and next semester in the light of HEC guidelines.
