About
An Introduction to the University of Turbat
The University of Turbat was established in May 2013 under the University of Turbat Act 2012 by the Government of Balochistan. It now operates under the Balochistan Universities Act 2022. Before becoming a full-fledged university, it functioned as a sub-campus of the University of Balochistan from 2009 to 2012, with just three teaching departments in a rented building. The institution was formally recognized by the Higher Education Commission of Pakistan in March 2014.
Keeping in view the evolving market needs, the University of Turbat has significantly expanded its academic offerings. From the academic year 2026, the university offers over 60 academic programs, including 3 PhD programs, 10 MPhil/MS programs, 15 BS programs, 13 Post-Associate Degree Programs, 20 Associate Degree Programs, and 6 programs under the self-finance scheme. Each program is carefully designed to meet the demands of the modern, competitive world and to cultivate an entrepreneurial mindset, encouraging students to become job creators rather than job seekers. Hundreds of alumni of the University of Turbat are now contributing to national development, prosperity, harmony, and peacebuilding across Pakistan.

Currently, the university comprises five faculties and eleven teaching departments, along with one institute, the Institute of Balochi Language and Culture. Within four years of its inception, the university successfully established two sub-campuses, one in Gwadar in 2017 and another in Panjgur in 2020. Both of which have since been upgraded to full-fledged universities.
Led by a team of highly qualified faculty members, including 31 PhDs, the University of Turbat provides quality education to more than 4,000 students.
The university offers a modern and supportive learning environment, featuring state-of-the-art facilities such as computer and science laboratories, up-to-date libraries with extensive resources, high-speed internet, a student facilitation center, on-campus hostels, a sports complex, gymnasium, model school, botanical garden, day care center, female faculty hostel, and many other modern amenities. The university also arranges extracurricular activities, student study and exposure visits, various other activities under student clubs and societies that nurture their creativity and leadership potential.
Through free online DigiSkills training, the university, in collaboration with partner institutions, is empowering the youth of South Balochistan with the digital tools and knowledge needed to excel in the modern economy. The future of youth is further being strengthened under initiatives such as the Prime Minister’s Young Peace and Development Corps and the Digital Youth Hub.
The university, in regular intervals, hosts meetings of statutory bodies, international conferences, workshops, business galas, and sports festivals, serving as a hub of academic and cultural exchange in the region.
The university has also launched several research journals, including Gidroshia, Meeri, Journal of Law and Social Sciences, and Journal of Business Studies and Economic Research, all duly recognized by the Higher Education Commission of Pakistan.
The University of Turbat is deeply committed to academic excellence, innovation, and collaboration. It continues to build strong partnerships with industry, promote entrepreneurial initiatives, and ensure quality in teaching, research, and administration.
Under the visionary leadership of Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Gul Hasan, the university is firmly advancing toward its strategic goals: ensuring continuous quality improvement initiatives through its Quality Enhancement Cell, engaging stakeholders in participatory decision-making, strengthening research collaborations with national and international institutions, automating campuses, supporting faculty in pursuing higher studies abroad, establishing an incubation center, implementing eco-friendly projects, conducting capacity-building programs for faculty and staff, hosting national and international conferences, initiating an employee housing scheme, generating revenue, and expanding academic and skills development programs.
