UoT scholar Mr. Mazhar Mohsin completed Doctorate degree

Mr. Mazhar Mohsin (PhD), Assistant Professor at the Department of Computer Science, University of Turbat, successfully defended his PhD thesis at the University of Eastern Finland. His research, centered on Computer Vision and Deep Learning, is titled “Deep Learning-Based Real-Time Defect Detection, Classification, and Segmentation Methods for Industrial Quality Control.” The thesis comprises 4 research articles.
During his PhD studies, he collaborated on several European Union research projects, including the European Digital Innovation Hub and EIT Digital. These projects primarily focused on developing Artificial Intelligence solutions for industrial challenges. Notably, he recently developed a machine vision-based intelligent application for forest harvesters, enabling real-time detection, segmentation, and measurement of wood logs. This innovative work has led to the acceptance of two patents, now published online. His significant contributions have garnered recognition in Finland, and have been featured in prominent Finnish news outlets, and got significant attention. His work has not only earned accolades within academic circles but has also been recognized with scholarships and financial backing from the European Union. It is further reported that numerous major companies in Finland and across Europe are now collaborating with Mazhar Mohsin’s research team eager to advance product development based on these inventions.
Vice-Chancellor, of the University of Turbat, Prof. Dr. Jan Muhammad extended his heartfelt congratulations to Mr. Mazhar Mohsin for completing his PhD and remarkable achievement in the field of industrial automation and AI methodologies in Finland. He said that this achievement is a source of pride not only for him but also for the University of Turbat, Balochistan, and the entire country. The Vice-Chancellor said that it is a matter of pride for the UoT fraternity that its faculty members are giving international recognition to the University of Turbat by accomplishing remarkable achievements in the field of modern research not only in the country but abroad as well.
