UoT’s faculty member Dr. Ghafoor Shad clinches best book award at Arts Council Karachi

The Arts Council Karachi awarded Dr. Ghafoor Shad's first book on poetry "Man Kassi Nehan من کسّہے نہاں" as the best book in Balochi literature. The renowned literary figure, educationalist, and language expert, Dr. Ghafoor Shad serves as an Assistant Professor at the Institute of Balochi Language and Culture (IBLC) of the University of Turbat (UoT), and also holds the position of Chairman at the Balochistan Academy Turbat,

He received the award for his book in person during the 16th Aalmi Urdu Conference 2023 at the Arts Council Karachi, where he was invited as a guest speaker. The Aalmi Urdu Conference is a universally renowned literary event that gathers intellectuals from around the world under one roof to celebrate the glory of our languages and literature.

Previously, his two books "Balochi Classical Shahiri" and "Balochi Zuban Bunzia-o-Nibishta Rahband" were awarded “Mast Tawkali Award” in 2014, and “Syed Hashmi Award” in 2019 by the Academy of Letters Islamabad, respectively. Hailing from district Kech, Dr. Ghafoor Shad writes poetry in modern Balochi literature with his unique style. He is also known as an expert in linguistics.

Prof. Dr. Jan Muhammad, Vice-Chancellor of the University of Turbat, Dr. Mansoor Ahmed, Pro Vice-Chancellor, and Prof. Dr. Abdul Saboor Baloch, Director IBLC, and Dean of Faculty of Literature and Languages at UoT along with UoT’s fraternity extended their gratitude to Dr. Ghafoor Shad for this remarkable literary accomplishment.
