University of Turbat Hosts First Job Fair: A Gateway to Career Opportunities

A two-day job fair was successfully organized by the University of Turbat (UoT) on November 27-28, 2024, hosted by the Office of Research, Innovation, and Commercialization (ORIC), and the Management Sciences Department at UoT.

The event was inaugurated by the University’s Vice-Chancellor, Prof Dr. Gul Hasan, who commended the efforts of the ORIC team and the Management Sciences Department at UoT in conducting the university's first job fair.

Numerous organizations from various sectors, including government institutions, private companies, banks, and NGOs set up their stalls on the second day of the job fair. These employers conducted interviews, collected resumes, and shared valuable insights about career paths and employer expectations. The event offered an excellent opportunity for graduating students and alumni to build professional connections with industries and launch their careers. The Peace and Advocacy Club, the Alumni Club, and the Art and Craft Society of the University of Turbat also set up their stalls at the event

The job fair began on the first day with an online career and employability conference aimed at navigating career pathways; and connecting industry leaders with graduating students and alumni. The first day’s sessions were chaired by Dr. Ghulam Jan, Assistant Professor at the Management Sciences Department, and co-chaired by Director ORIC Dr. Fida Ahmed. The conference was attended by various organizations and firms, students, alumni, faculty, and staff, both in person and virtually via Zoom. During the welcome remarks, Dr. Waeeem Barkat, Dean of the Faculty of Business and Economics, Dr. Fida Ahmed, Dr. Ghulam Jan, and Mr. Noroz Khan, Chairperson of the Management Sciences Department, expressed their heartfelt gratitude to participating organizations, faculty members, administrative staff, students, and industry leaders for their participation and contributions to the event.

Government officials, industry leaders, and entrepreneurs from different sectors including Mr. Noor Ul Haq Baloch, Chairperson Balochistan Revenue Authority, Balochistan, Mr. Bashir Agha, Entrepreneur and Consultant from Quetta, Mr. Nisar Moosa, CEO of Celebrating Gifting Company, Mr. Muhammad Ali, Manager Training and Students Affairs, ICAP Pakistan, Mr. Afzal Shahabuddin, Managing Director of Resource Edge, Ms. Solmaz Regi, CEO Ruralz Inc. and Social Entrepreneur, Mr. Zeeshan Abro, HR Professional and Leader GHRM-Lucky One Pvt Ltd, Mr. Mohammad Jan, CEO Baloch Hamza and Brothers, Mr. Shahzad Qamar, Director Ataaleeq Foundation, Mr. Sikander Farooq, Director Digital Community Foundation, Mr. Muhammad Akbar, Senior Manager Infrastructure, PSEB Islamabad, Mr. Muhammad Yousuf Munir, Head of HRD & Outreach, Ataleeq Foundation, Mr. Saif Gichki, Entrepreneur/Co-Founder Saigon and Mr. Arham Rahim, CHRO at Pakistan Reinsurance Company joined the sessions, and shred views with the participants during conference.

These speakers shared their expertise on topics such as border-related legal trade opportunities, entrepreneurship, artificial intelligence, career counseling, job-seeking skills, employability for graduates, and overcoming challenges with optimism. Some also shared personal success stories to inspire participants.

Additionally, the Pakistan Software Export Board (PSEB) announced plans to establish a technology park at UoT. Representatives of various industries encouraged students to submit resumes and even offered jobs to potential candidates.

Students and alumni expressed their enthusiasm for the opportunity to interact directly with employers, explore diverse career prospects, and gain valuable insights into professional development.

During the closing session of the event, the chief guest, Vice Chancellor of the University of Turbat, Professor Dr. Gul Hasan, along with the deans, registrar, directors, and heads of various teaching and administrative departments, distributed shields and certificates to the participating firms, organizers, and volunteers of the event.
