UoT Observes Earth Day with Creative Student Competitions and Exhibitions

Turbat (23rd April 2025) The Education Department and the Green Youth Movement (GYM) Club, under the Directorate of Student Affairs at the University of Turbat (UoT), jointly observed Earth Day at UoT on April 22, 2025. The Education Department organized a model exhibition, while the GYM Club hosted a short video competition aimed at encouraging students to creatively promote environmental awareness.

Dr. Muhammad Tahir Hakeem, Dean of the Faculty of Social Sciences, formally inaugurated the Earth Day exhibition. Mr. Ganguzar Baloch, Registrar of UoT, and Dr. Mahnaz Aslam, Chairperson of the Department of Education, were also present on the occasion.

The model exhibition was coordinated by Ms. Hani Badal, Teaching Fellow in the Education Department, while the short video competition was supervised by Mr. Jehand Baloch, a faculty member in the Department of Natural and Basic Sciences. The exhibition featured a variety of innovative and academic projects, including models of sustainable ecosystems, climate change awareness posters, water conservation demonstrations, recycled art displays, and interactive activities showcasing environmentally friendly practices.

In his address, Dr.Tahir Hakeem said that such creative activities are part of UoT’s contribution to Pakistan’s national efforts to achieve the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (UN-SDGs). He said that the University of Turbat is making every effort to provide students with platforms to showcase their creative talents.

In the Short Video Competition, Ms. Eiman Liaqat from the Department of Natural and Basic Sciences secured first place. Second place was jointly awarded to Ms. Aisha Abdul Rahim from the same department and Ms. Zohaib Elahi from the Department of Computer Science. The third position was earned by the team of Mr. Jameel Nazir and Mr. Muhammad Haris, also from the Department of Natural and Basic Sciences.
