UoT Botany Students Explore Traditional Medicinal Plants During Field Visit to Kaisak

The University of Turbat organized a field visit to Kaisak, a village located about 20 kilometers from Turbat city, on October 27, 2025, for Botany students as part of their course, under the supervision of faculty member Irshad Ahmed.

The visit aimed to document traditional knowledge of medicinal plants from local experts. These experts, who depend on such plants for healthcare and daily needs, shared invaluable insights, emphasizing the importance of preserving this cultural heritage.
Speaking on the occasion, the faculty member highlighted that collecting this knowledge is crucial as it bridges ancient wisdom with modern science, supports drug discovery, and helps safeguard cultural identity amid rapid urbanization.
During the visit, students recorded ethnobotanical data and collected plant specimens to prepare herbariums, thereby enriching their academic and practical learning experience. According to the university spokesperson, such academic and research activities help enhance students’ intellectual understanding, research skills, and practical experience. Under the leadership of Vice Chancellor Professor Dr. Gul Hasan, the university administration, with the support of faculty members, is utilizing all available resources to further improve the quality of education and to strengthen students’ practical learning and research capabilities. The faculty member and students expressed sincere gratitude to the local experts for their time and for sharing their traditional knowledge of medicinal plants.
