CDWP, Chaired by Federal Minister Ahsan Iqbal, Approves Revised Project of University of Turbat (Phase-II), VC Expresses Gratitude for Continued Support

The Central Development Working Party (CDWP), chaired by the Federal Minister for Planning, Development & Special Initiatives, Prof. Ahsan Iqbal, on November 14, 2025, has approved the revised PC-I of the University of Turbat (UoT) Phase-II project.

During the meeting, the Federal Minister reiterated his unwavering support for the University of Turbat and its mission to advance higher education and foster socio-economic development in the southern region of Balochistan. He underscored that strengthening institutions like UoT is vital for empowering youth, expanding local opportunities, developing skilled human resources, and reducing regional disparities.
A detailed briefing on the revised PC-I was presented by Dr. Najeeb Ullah, Member (Science & Technology/ICT), Planning Commission, Dr.Gul Mohammad Laghari, Senior Chief (S&T), Syed Naveed Shah, Director (M&E), and Mr. Asif Hussain, Director (P&D), Higher Education Commission (HEC). The presentation highlighted core components of the project, including infrastructure development, academic expansion, and essential facilities aimed at elevating UoT’s academic and administrative capacity.

Following extensive deliberations, the CDWP approved the revised PC-I at a total cost of Rs. 1,930.33 million. In addition, reaffirming his continuous patronage for higher education, Prof. Ahsan Iqbal announced several targeted allocations to further strengthen student services and institutional support at the University of Turbat. These targeted allocations include Rs. 10 million for student engagement initiatives, Rs. 23 million for establishing a state-of-the-art Digital Library, Rs. 80 million for solarization of new academic blocks, and Rs. 42 million for procurement of laboratory equipment. These allocations are aimed at enriching academic resources, promoting energy sustainability, and enhancing the overall learning environment for students across all disciplines.
Vice Chancellor, Prof. Dr. Gul Hasan, expressed profound gratitude to Federal Minister Prof. Ahsan Iqbal, senior officials of the Planning Commission, and the HEC team for their continued support and commitment to strengthening higher education in Balochistan. He noted that Prof. Ahsan Iqbal, an accomplished academician and experienced policymaker, has consistently championed the cause of higher education throughout Pakistan, particularly in Balochistan. The University of Turbat, he added, remains deeply appreciative of his longstanding efforts to uplift academic institutions.
The Vice Chancellor emphasized that the approval of UoT Phase-II reflects the Government of Pakistan’s unwavering commitment to expanding quality higher education in underserved regions. He remarked that the generous allocations will greatly benefit both the students and faculty of the university.
He further extended a formal invitation to Federal Minister Ahsan Iqbal to visit the University of Turbat and inaugurate the newly completed buildings under Phase-II.
Concluding the meeting, the Federal Minister reaffirmed his resolve to continue supporting universities across the country, recognizing their pivotal role in shaping Pakistan’s socio-economic future and contributing to long-term national development.
