UoT holds ORIC pre-summit meeting

The Turbat University’s (UoT) Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Abusl Razzaq Sabir has said that Office of Research, Innovation and Commercialization (ORIC) would play a vital role in economic development and promotion of business activities in this part of the country.

“the UoT ORIC has achieved many millstones. It has conducted entrepreneurship challenge and Business Gala”, said the VC while addressing the ORIC pre-summit meeting of 3rd Innovation Summit Balochistan 2018.

The two-day pre-summit meeting was held in University of Turbat on March 1-2, 2018 in collaboration with other Universities of Balochistan.

The meeting was attended by a delegation which included the ORIC’s Directors of various universities and representatives of business institutions in Balochistan, Dr Waheed Noor from University of Balochistan, Dr Waseem Asghar Khan from BUETK, Dr. M.M Tariq Kiani from CASVAB UoB, Zafarullah Jatak and Dr Mir Dost from LUAWMS, Aslam Zaib Manager R&D UET Khuzdar, Dr S. Rahmat Shah Associate Professor, Rehmatullah from Institute of Research Promotion (IRP), Bashir Agha from Pakistan Gems and Jewelry Training Center, Muhammad Iqbal Assistant Manager SMEDA Turbat University registrar Dr Haneef Ur Rahman, Faculty of Management Sciences Dean Prof Dr Munir Ahmed Gichki, Chairman Economic department Dr Abdul Qayyum, Mazar Mohsin Chairman Computer Science University of Turbat, PSO to VC Chaker Hyder and other faculty members were also present at this occasion.

Dr Sabir said, “ORIC is working on many HEC research projects, has organized research workshops and encouraging the self-employment and job providing concept in the region.”

He emphasized on aligning academic activities of the universities with the market requirement through strong academia-industry-society-government linkages.

He appreciated the initiatives taken by HEC and its Chairman Dr Mukhtar Ahmed for starting the departments like ORIC and QEC in universities to promote economy based education in the country.

Vice Chancellor informed the delegation that Turbat University was the first university on the route of China Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) and it had the strength to provide human resource to the CPEC projects.

Briefing the participants on four years UoT success story he said “ we have sent more than 15 faculty members abroad on scholarships for M.Phil and Ph.D, more than twenty faculty members to different universities in Pakistan for advanced and higher studies. Almost half of them had rejoined the university after completing their higher studies.”

He disclosed that his institution was planning to organize 2nd convocation in April this year. He congratulated UoT ORIC Director Abdul Majid Nasir and his team for organizing a successful two-day pre-summit meeting in Turbat University in collaboration with ORIC of other universities in Balochistan.

Speakers presented their suggestions over strengthening technology presentation in exhibition. They also gave detailed presentation on developing Date Palm Sector in Balochistan, and strengthening Startup Competition in the Summit and post summit incubation and entrepreneurship.

The UoT ORIC Director Abdul Majid Nasir welcomed and thanked the guests for participating in pre-summit meeting.

The delegation also visited Gwadar and met with Gwadar Port Authority (GPA) Chairman Dostein Khan Jamaldini and Gwadar Development Authority (GDA) Director General Dr Sajjad Ahmed and discussed the opportunities for strengthening the academia industry linkages for the promotion of business activities in the region.
