The seminar was attended by the faculty member Shah Hussain, UoT’s Deputy Registrar Ganguzar Baloch, PSO to Vice Chancellor Mir Bahad Baloch, founder of Rising Youth Zargul Baloch, faculty members and students.
Emphasizing on the significance and need of vote casting for strengthening the democratic system in Pakistan the UoT’s Registrar Ghulam Farooq Baloch said,” besides promoting education in this region, the Turbat University is playing an important role in strengthening democratic norms and values which provides base for the development and prosperity of any country, however lack of education is a factor which don’t let the democracy and electoral system grow up in its true sense.”
He was in view that first democratic system was set up in Athens in 507 BC and faced many ups and downs to expand throughout world in present shape. With deep concerns he said that a 40% of world population still being deprived from democratic and electoral system, but luckily Pakistan is among those country where democracy has grown up and men and women have given equal rights to participate in electoral process. He said it was good to see Election Commission of Pakistan busy in taking concrete steps to bring reforms and remove weaknesses found in electoral process. Ghulam Farooq said that one must continue the right of vote not for the political development but for the economic and social development of the country as well. He assured the support from University of Turbat to Election Commission of Pakistan in the efforts for the promotion of democracy and electoral process.
Highlighting the aims of the seminar Regional Election Commissioner Abdul Wahid Baloch said that our core purpose was to sensitize the youth about the importance of vote and democracy to strengthen the national integrity through participation and owing electoral system. He said “Election Commission of Pakistan, the top poll body of the country with an important goal of the 5-year strategic plan, working on voter education throughout country at district level.”
He was on opinion that elections are considered as the base of democracy and it cannot run without the participation of people at large and the person who deny for casting vote also denies the fundamental rights. It is hard hitting to witness that a number of youth do not participate in electoral process, adding that Vote is a fundamental right of any citizen that enables them to choose the leaders of tomorrow. Many people do not vote thinking one vote will not make a change, but in fact it’s not true, because electoral process is an ample opportunity for us to express our acceptance or denial for the government’s policies and working. He said that election gives the authority in the hands of the public and provides them the freedom to elect the government of their choice which will work for their growth and development. At the end he thanked VC UoT Prof Dr Abdul Razzaq Sabir, Registrar Ghulam Farooq Baloch, Chairman Political Science Department Jameel Ahmed Badini, faculty members and students for their cooperation in organizing voter education seminar in Turbat University.
