Dr. Abdul Qayyum, Assistant Professor in the Department of Economics at the University of Turbat (UoT), has achieved a significant academic milestone by completing his PhD at the University of Malaya, Malaysia, under the University Human Resource Development program. He successfully defended his PhD thesis, titled “The Impact of Fiscal Decentralization on Service Delivery, Income Inequality, and Governance in Pakistan,” during a viva voce held on January 14, 2025, at the University of Malaya.
The Vice Chancellor of UoT Prof. Dr. Gul Hasan, along with the university's faculty members and administrative staff, extended their heartfelt congratulations to Dr. Abdul Qayyum on his remarkable academic achievement. The Vice-Chancellor emphasized the pivotal role of highly qualified and dedicated faculty members in shaping the university’s future. He said “Our young, dynamic, and highly qualified faculty members are the backbone of the University of Turbat. Their commitment, knowledge, and innovative contributions are instrumental in advancing the university’s mission of excellence in higher education and research.”
Dr. Abdul Qayyum’s research sheds light on critical socio-economic and governance issues in Pakistan, providing actionable insights for policymakers and stakeholders. His work underscores the importance of fiscal decentralization as a mechanism to improve service delivery, reduce income inequality, and enhance governance issues that are particularly relevant to the sustainable development of Pakistan.
