Educational Visit Enhances UoT Students’ Knowledge of Agriculture, Seed Research, and Innovation

Students and faculty of the Department of Natural and Basic Sciences, University of Turbat, led by HoD Dr. Jahangir Khan visited the Federal Seed Certification & Registration Department (FSC & RD), Turbat, on September 4, 2025. Faculty members Talal Qadir, Ghulab Khan, and Shahjan accompanied the students.

The visit bridged classroom learning with practical applications in agriculture, providing insights into seed certification, quality control, and the importance of high-quality seeds for sustainable farming in Turbat and Balochistan. FSC & RD officials briefed participants on the department’s mandate and functions, while experts from the Directorate of Agriculture Research Dates, Kech, engaged students in interactive discussions on plant breeding, pest management, soil chemistry, and seed inspection.

Prominent officials, including Director Naeem, Deputy Director Zahid Hussain, Agronomist Jameel Ahmed, Plant Breeding & Genetics expert Dr. Tariq, Entomologist Dr. Mukhtar, Agronomist Dr. Rafique Ahmed, Soil Chemist Siraj, Research Officer Gulab Jan, and Seed Inspector Israr Majeed, shared their expertise. Through interactive discussions, students gained exposure to various specializations such as plant breeding, pest management, soil chemistry, and seed inspection.

At the conclusion of the visit, Dr. Jahangir Khan expressed gratitude to the FSC & RD officials for their warm hospitality and for providing valuable knowledge to UoT students. Dr. Jahangir Khan further apprised the FSC & RD officials that, under the leadership of Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Gul Hasan, the University of Turbat is committed to equipping its students with modern facilities and practical learning opportunities.

He added that the university is making dedicated efforts to promote the study of natural and basic sciences in the region, thereby nurturing a new generation of researchers, innovators, and professionals who can contribute to regional and national development.
