Governor Balochistan Presides Over 3rd Convocation of Turbat University and Proposes AI Center

The 3rd Convocation of the University of Turbat (UoT) was held on January 15, 2026, at the main campus of the university. Governor Balochistan and Chancellor, UoT, Shaikh Jaffar Khan Mandokhail, presided over the Convocation.

Mir Zahoor Ahmed Buledi, Provincial Minister for Planning and Development, and Ms. Raheela Hameed Khan Durrani, Minister for Higher Education, graced the ceremony as guests of honor.

The ceremony was also attended by UoT’s Vice Chancellor, Prof. Dr. Gul Hasan, Pro Vice Chancellor, Dr. Kamal Ahmed, UoT’s Senate members, Deans, Registrar, Controller of Examinations, Directors, heads of academic and administrative departments, faculty members, administrative staff,  member of national assembly Phulain Baloch, Commandant Makran Scouts, Vice Chancellor of the University of Gwadar, Prof. Dr. Abdul Razzaq Sabir, Vice Chancellor of University of Makran, Mir Prof. Dr. Sadat Baloch, Justice (R) Shakeel Ahmed Baloch, Secretary Higher Education  Saleh Muhammad Baloch, Additional Secretary Higher Education Abdul Malik Achakzai, Director Academic Management at the Higher Education Department, Dr. Mansoor Ahmed, Divisional Monitoring Officer (Makran) Barkat Ismail, Commissioner Makran Qadir Bakhsh Pirkani, Deputy Commissioner Kech Ɓasheer Ahmed Bareech, Dr. Taj Bsloch, DG BISP (Balochistan) Jalal Faiz, provincial advisor for Fishries Haji Barkat Ali Rind, ex member of provincial assembly Mahjabeen Sheran, ex Provincial Minister Abdul Ghafoor Bezanju, prominent politician Mir Hamal Balch, prominent banker Mir Bijjar Baloch, judges, lawyers,  educationists, parliamentarians, public representatives, government officials, heads of various educational institutions, officials from armed and civil forces, civil society representatives, media persons, parents, and graduating students. 

In his address, Governor Shaikh Jaffar Khan Mandokhail reaffirmed that education is the primary tool for empowering youth and ensuring peace and prosperity in Balochistan. He expressed great satisfaction over the university's 50% female enrollment and urged graduates to use their skills and talents to promote human dignity and tolerance.

The Governor lauded Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Gul Hasan and his team for providing quality education to the youth of this remote region. He announced a cash prize of Rs. 100,000 for each gold medalist and emphasized the urgent need to establish a state-of-the-art Artificial Intelligence (AI) Center at UoT to advance technological research and innovation in the region.

He also assured the university of consistent financial support from the provincial government and the Chancellor’s office to resolve budgetary deficits.

Minister for Higher Education, Ms. Raheela Hameed Khan Durrani praised the university’s focus on modern and creative education. She acknowledged the contributions of the public representatives, including former chief minister of Balochistan, Dr. Abdul Malik Baloch, toward the institution's development and vowed to resolve financial and administrative challenges facing universities in Balochistan.

Minister for Planning and Development, Mir Zahoor Ahmed Buledi, highlighted the collaborative efforts of various political leaders and local communities in establishing UoT. He said that the current government, led by Mir Sarfaraz Ahmed Bugti, has increased university grants to Rs. 8 billion, reflecting a deep commitment to making Balochistan’s youth globally competitive.

Earlier, in his welcome address, Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Gul Hasan said that the UoT has achieved national prominence through the collective support of the faculty members, administrative staff, government of Balochistan, Chancellor’s Office, public representatives, the HEC, and the local community. He said that more than 120 highly qualified faculty members, including 41 PhD scholars, are providing quality education to over 4000 students. He thanked the government for its keen interest in resolving the university’s financial and salary-related issues.

The ceremony concluded with the distribution of degrees and gold medals. Earlier, Governor Balochistan inaugurated the Senate Hall, handed over the keys of a new bus for students of Hoshab, and planted a tree at the Administration Block.

Dr. Shah Meer Baloch, Chairman of the English Department, served as the lead stage secretary, while faculty members Mahjabeen Faqir and Ameer Bakhsh served as co-stage secretaries for the convocation.
