Students from the Department of Natural and Basic Sciences, University of Turbat visited the Kech Thalassemia Care Center (KTCC) on April 25, 2026, as part of an academic and community engagement activity for increasing awareness and understanding of thalassemia prevention and care in the region. The visit was supervised by Dr. Haneef Ur Rehman, Dean Faculty of Science, Engineering and IT, along with Dr. Jahangir, Head of Department of Natural and Basic Sciences, and faculty member, Mr. Jeand Ibrahim.

The students were received by Irshid Arif, Director KTCC, who provided a comprehensive briefing about the functioning of the care center, including patient care services, diagnostic facilities, and ongoing efforts for awareness and prevention of thalassemia.
During the visit, Dr. Haneef Ur Rehman and Irshad Arif discussed in detail the possibility of future collaboration between the university and the Thalassemia Care Center.
The discussion focused on developing joint scientific and policy-based research initiatives aimed at the prevention and control of thalassemia.
It was mutually agreed to propose the introduction of a thalassemia screening test policy for university admissions. The idea is to make screening for thalassemia minor a compulsory requirement for students seeking admission to the university.

It was strongly believed that if such a policy is adopted at the institutional level, it would significantly contribute to early detection, awareness, and prevention, and would ultimately play a key role in controlling thalassemia in the region. Furthermore, both sides emphasized the importance of student involvement in volunteer activities.
According to the university spokesperson, the students were encouraged to actively participate in blood donation and collection drives, fundraising campaigns, and awareness programs related to thalassemia.
According to the spokesperson, the University of Turbat, under the leadership of Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Gul Hasan, is committed to utilizing all available resources to benefit the institution and its students. The university is actively promoting quality education alongside community engagement for the well-being of society.
