HEC Chairman Visits Quetta, Meets Governor, Chief Minister, and Vice Chancellors; Reaffirms Commitment to Strengthening Higher Education in Balochistan

Chairman of the Higher Education Commission (HEC), Dr. Niaz Ahmad Akhtar, visited Quetta on June 4-5, 2026, where he engaged with key stakeholders to advance higher education, research, quality assurance, and skills development in Balochistan.

During his two-day visit, Dr. Akhtar visited higher education institutions (HEIs) in Quetta and held interactive sessions with faculty members and university leadership. He emphasized the importance of academic excellence, research innovation, faculty development, and institutional capacity building in enhancing the quality of higher education.
Accompanied by the Vice Chancellors of the University of Turbat, University of Balochistan, University of Loralai and Sardar Bahadur Khan Women’s University, the HEC Chairman met with the Chief Minister of Balochistan, Mir Sarfaraz Ahmed Bugti. During the meeting, he appreciated the provincial government’s continued support in addressing the financial challenges faced by public sector universities across the province.

Dr. Akhtar reaffirmed HEC’s commitment to equipping the youth of Balochistan with contemporary knowledge, technological expertise, and scientific skills. He stated that the Commission is undertaking comprehensive initiatives to strengthen higher education institutions and create greater opportunities for students throughout the province.
The HEC Chairman also met with the Governor of Balochistan, Shaikh Jaffar Khan Mandokhail, accompanied by the vice chancellors of the province’s public universities. During the discussion, he expressed his sincere appreciation for the unwavering support extended by the Chancellor’s Office in strengthening higher education institutions in Balochistan.

The Vice Chancellor of the University of Turbat, Prof. Dr. Gul Hasan, was also present during the meetings. According to the University of Turbat spokesperson, Prof. Dr. Gul Hasan briefed the HEC Chairman on the university’s performance, major achievements, ongoing development projects, and future academic initiatives.
Prof. Dr. Gul Hasan highlighted that the University of Turbat is continuously striving to enhance educational standards, strengthen research activities, and expand academic opportunities for students through sustained institutional reforms and quality enhancement measures.

During the meeting, the HEC Chairman assured the Vice Chancellor that he would visit the University of Turbat in the near future. He also announced that HEC plans to organize training and capacity-building workshops for the administrative and academic staff of the University of Turbat, as well as other universities in Balochistan, during the next financial year to further strengthen institutional capacity across the province.
Commending the talent and potential of Balochistan’s youth, Dr. Akhtar observed that, with adequate opportunities, quality education, and sustained support, the province’s students have the ability to excel at both the national and international levels and make significant contributions to the country’s development.
