Road safety seminar held at UoT Gwadar Campus

National Highways and Motorway Police (NH&MP) West Zone in collaboration with University of Turbat (UoT) Gwadar Campus organized a seminar on “Road Safety” in seminar hall of the campus on 5th November, 2019.

The keynote speaker D.I.G. NH&MP Ali Sher Jhakarani in his motivational speech educated the students on different aspects of road safety and sought a commitment from them that they would never cross speed limit and would never use mobile phone while driving a vehicle. He urged everyone should learn the road traffic and safety rules at a very early age to perform safer behaviors in the later life. He suggested that road safety measures should be added in the curriculum so that students can get complete knowledge on traffic regulation and most of the road accidents occur because of incomplete knowledge about operating vehicles and lack of road safety measures. He said that it is good to see that ratio of road accidents in Gwadar significantly decreased due to Motorway police awareness campaign and its traffic rules enforcement measures. He thanked VC UoT Prof Dr Abdul Razzaq Sabir, Campus Director Ijaz Ahmed and his team for cooperating in organizing Road Safety Seminar at UoT Gwadar Campus.

Director UoT Gwadar Campus Ijaz Ahmed Baloch said that there was an urgent need to make people more aware about road safety precautions and strict laws must also be implemented to enforce road safety norms in order to reduce the risk of road accidents and road side injury because of the mistakes of people while driving on the road. Highlighting the successes achieved by the university in short time he said besides academic activities the UoT Gwadar Campus was also committed to fulfil its social responsibilities for the good of the people. On behalf of VC UoT prof. Dr. Abdul Razzaq Sabir, the Campus Director thanked the officials of NH&MP for organizing Road Safety Seminar at UoT Gwadar Campus
Giving a presentation on Road Safety and performance of Motorway Police CPO MP Zaheer Abbas said that Motorway Police came into being on 26th November 1997, and stated functioning in Balochistan in 2006 from Gwadar.

Commander Pak Naval police Shahab Ahmed also said precious lives are being lost daily because of the driving mistakes and lack of road traffic rules followers. According to a report 36000 people had lost their lives in 2018 due to road accident, he added. Commander Pak Naval Police said organizing seminar on Road Safety in universities and educational institutions will be helpful to create awareness on road safety among youths. He said “Our future is dependent on education and establishment of a university campus in Gwadar can be a change agent in the field of higher education in this far flung area of the country”.

At the end Helmets were distributed among students and drivers. DIG NH&MP Sher Ali Jhakarani, Pak Naval Police Commander Shahab Ahmed and Director Campus Ijaz Ahmed exchanged shield and souvenir on behalf of their respective institutions.

The seminar was attended officers from Motorway Police, Deputy Campus Coordinator Hafeez Mubarak, Incharge Management Science department Ubaid Ali, Incharge Commerce department Mujahid Hussain, Incharge Education department Mahira Khan, seminar coordinator lecturer Irshad Buledi, faculty member Shaihak Ali, Aqeel Ahmed, Shehzad, Tahir Rasheed, journalists and students at large number.
