ORIC organized a two-day workshop at UoT

The office of Research Innovation and Commercialization (ORIC) organized a two day’s workshop on 11 and 12 August, 2020 at video conferencing room of University of Turbat (UoT).

All precautionary measures and Standard Operating Procedures (SoPs) were observed during the workshop to protect from the spread of COVID-19.

Dr.Yarjan Abdul Samad, Dr.Warda Inam, Dr.Waqas Rashid, Mr.Benjamin Ting, Ameer Hamza and Abdullah were among the panelist who shared their views with participants through video link. The workshop was attended by the UoT’s students.

The purpose of the workshop was to motivate the students of UoT to bring new business ideas and find the solution to the problems. The workshop was also aimed to prepare the participants for startup competition and avail funds and investment in Pakistan and from different countries for the their business ideas being implemented.

Dr. Haneef Ur Rahman Director ORIC and Dean Faculty of Science and Engineering was the chief organizer of the workshop.

The panelist Dr.Warda Inam, shared her journey from Pakistan to America and the way how she started her startup in America. She explained the importance of use of new technology in startup and she also encouraged the students to bring new ideas in the market.

The second day of the workshop was started with the activities of the students. The students brought their products prototypes, business ideas and showcased their presentation. While presenting his start up to the participants of the workshop Mr. Abdullah shared his experience in the field of cricket. Sharing his success story he said that he participated in different startup competitions in Pakistan and won different prizes. He also pointed out the hurdles faced by him and his team during presenting the prototype to a product and the way he introduce his product to China.
The panelist Ameer Hamza, a local entrepreneur, shared his experience of beekeeping business. He revealed that there was a good business opportunity for beekeeping in Balochistan.

Other panelists Ameer Hamza and Dr.Waqas Rasheed talked on the theme “Development of Startup Conducive Culture”. Dr.Waqas guided the students on how to make a business model and how the world is changing and innovative ideas are emerging so quickly. Quoting the examples of Uber and Careem, Dr.Waqas said that startups was very supportive to reduce the rate of unemployment in the country.

Mr. Benjamin Ting shared views on “An Innovator’s Mindset” and engaged the students with different activities. He guided the students how to identify a problem and find a solution to the problem. Mr. Benjamin Ting also answered the questions asked by the students during workshop.

At the end, Dr. Haneef Ur Rehman thanked the panelists for being available for the students of University of Turbat.
