In a significant move to turn academic knowledge into practical impact, the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has formalized a strategic collaboration with leading public sector universities, including the University of Turbat (UoT).

In this regard, a Letter of Agreement (LoA) was signed between the University of Turbat and the National Institute of Disaster Management (NIDM) on January 1, 2026, in Islamabad. The document was signed by Mr. M. Tanveer Piracha, Executive Director of NIDM, and Prof. Dr. Gul Hasan, Vice-Chancellor of the University of Turbat.
Commenting on the significance of the partnership, Vice-Chancellor Prof. Dr. Gul Hasan stated that under this agreement, both institutions will collaborate on national and international Research and Development projects.
Furthermore, both institutions will cooperate on disaster management training and education programs through joint workshops, conferences, seminars, and internships. The agreement also provides a framework for the exchange of faculty, researchers, students, and professionals for teaching, training, and research exposure visits.

According to a university spokesperson, Vice-Chancellor Prof. Dr. Gul Hasan appreciated the NDMA’s advanced early warning and hazard projection capabilities at the National Emergencies Operations Centre (NEOC). During the meeting, the Vice-Chancellor proposed the establishment of a regional, subject-specific Center of Excellence at UoT, which would serve to expand the outreach of the NDMA’s existing Center of Excellence on Climate Change and Disaster Management.
Prof. Dr. Gul Hasan reaffirmed that the University of Turbat remains dedicated to its vision of not only promoting quality education but also actively contributing to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and fulfilling its social and community responsibilities.
