Two UoT MPhil Scholars Successfully Defend Their Theses in Biochemistry

Ms. Shali Anwar and Ms. Zameera Wahid, two MPhil scholars from the Department of Natural and Basic Sciences at the University of Turbat (UoT), successfully defended their research theses on January 20, 2026. Their research work was conducted under the supervision of Dr. Jahangir Khan, Assistant Professor, UoT, and co-supervised by Dr. Afsar Mian, Associate Professor, Centre for Regenerative Medicine & Stem Cell Research, Aga Khan University, Karachi. and Dr. Haneef-ur-Rehman, Associate Professor, UoT.
They carried out their research work in collaboration with the laboratories of Aga Khan University (AKU), Karachi. Ms. Shali’s thesis was evaluated by the external examiner, Prof. Dr. Ali Akbar from the University of Swat, while Prof. Dr. Muhammad Aslam Buzdar evaluated Ms. Zameera’s work from Bolan University of Medical & Health Sciences, Quetta; both examiners participated via video link.

During the defense, the quality of the research was highly commended by the supervisors, external examiners, and the Director of Graduate Studies, Dr. Waseem Barkat. Ms. Shali’s findings have already gained international recognition, as her work was presented at the 67th American Society of Hematology Annual Meeting in Orlando, USA. Similarly, Ms. Zameera Wahid’s research demonstrated a profound dedication to addressing the challenges of beta-thalassemia in District Kech.
The university management and faculty members congratulated both scholars on their successful defense and acknowledged their significant contributions to the field of biochemistry.
