Turbat University Steps into the Digital Era with European Commission-Funded State-of-the-Art Smart Classroom

A state-of-the-art smart classroom has been established at the University of Turbat (UoT) under the European Commission-funded Erasmus+ CBHE RAPID Project, led by Sukkur IBA University. The project is coordinated by Prof. Dr. Javed Ahmed Shahani from Sukkur IBA.
The initiative aims to strengthen online and distance learning at the university by integrating modern technologies and enhancing digital teaching capacities. The newly established smart classroom is equipped with an 86-inch IdeaHub, six microphones, interactive whiteboards, e-learning tools, virtual desktops, a centralized interactive control system, high-speed internet, and live video supported by digital image stabilization, enabling the seamless delivery of virtual classes and creating a comprehensive, technology-driven learning environment.

The smart classroom was formally inaugurated by Advocate Bahad Jameel Dashti, Deputy Chairman, District Council Kech, on May 5, 2026. The inaugural ceremony was attended by representatives of partner institutions, including LUMS and IBA Karachi, as well as officials from Sukkur IBA University. The Mayor of Turbat, UoT faculty members, administrative staff, and MPhil and PhD scholars were also present. The proceedings were conducted by the Director Quality Enhancement Cell, Dr. Riaz Ahmed.
Speaking on the occasion, Vice Chancellor UoT, Prof. Dr. Gul Hasan, expressed his gratitude to the European Commission and Pakistani partner universities for their collaboration in successfully implementing the project. He particularly acknowledged Prof. Dr. Javed Ahmed Shahani for his continued support in facilitating the project at UoT, enabling access to international research opportunities, securing funding avenues, and supporting faculty capacity-building initiatives abroad.

The Vice Chancellor said that the smart classroom would significantly enhance teaching quality, promote interactive and collaborative virtual learning, and provide students with access to high-quality digital educational resources. He also thanked the guests for their participation and appreciated the efforts of the UoT IT team in organizing the inaugural ceremony.
On the occasion, Sukkur IBA University’s Pro Vice Chancellor, Prof. Dr. Manzoor Ali Mirani, and Prof. Dr. Javed Ahmed Shahani presented a detailed overview of the project’s background and objectives. They emphasized that, with the establishment of this modern facility, the University of Turbat is now well-positioned to offer online, distance, and e-learning programs comparable to leading institutions in the country.

Prof. Dr. Manzoor Ali Mirani also highlighted the availability of free-of-cost education opportunities at Sukkur IBA University for students from Balochistan, including the Makran Division. Prof. Dr. Javed Ahmed Shahani further shared that, in addition to establishing the smart classroom, four faculty and staff members from UoT have been sent to partner universities in Europe for capacity-building training.
Faculty members from partner universities, including Prof. Dr. Sher Muhammad Daudpota from Sukkur IBA University, Prof. Dr. Zubair Khalid from LUMS) and Prof. Dr. Shahid Hussain from IBA Karachi, joined the ceremony virtually. They discussed the evolving landscape of higher education policy in Pakistan and reaffirmed their commitment to supporting the continued growth of the University of Turbat.

Addressing the ceremony, Advocate Bahad Jameel Dashti and the Mayor of Turbat, Balakhsher Qazi, lauded the university’s efforts in promoting quality education in the region, describing it as a national asset. They assured their full support for the university’s future development.
At the conclusion of the ceremony, the Vice Chancellor presented shields to the distinguished guests.
