Turbat University’s Economics Department Sets Roadmap to Strengthens Graduate Research Culture

The Faculty Graduate Research Committee (FGRC) of the Department of Economics at the University of Turbat (UoT) held its first meeting on September 9, 2026, chaired by Dr. Adeel Ahmed, Dean, Faculty of Business & Economics.

The meeting was also attended by Dr. Waseem Barkat, Director, Graduate Studies, Dr. Abdul Qayyum, Assistant Professor, Department of Economics, Dr. Badal Khan, Assistant Professor, Department of Management Sciences, and Mr. Ameer Bakhsh, Program Coordinator.

In a significant development, the FGRC announced that the department will initiate formal proceedings to launch a PhD program in Economics, in line with HEC guidelines.

The committee reviewed proposed research titles and approved supervisor/co-supervisor selections for MS Economics scholars, with final title approval to follow after further proposal refinement. The Committee reaffirmed that attendance at research workshops is mandatory for all MS, MPhil, and PhD scholars, and directed the department to maintain complete research files for each scholar.

In his message, Vice Chancellor Dr. Gul Hasan lauded the timely convening of statutory bodies’ meetings, terming it a reflection of the University's strong commitment to positioning the University of Turbat as an emerging center of excellence for advanced research, not only within the region but on the wider national academic landscape.

According to the University’s spokesperson, the Vice Chancellor further emphasized that the University remains committed in its resolve to maintain a conducive research environment in line with its Strategic Plan 2030, which envisions UoT as a leading hub for research-driven, high-quality education.
